Marcos And Dom: Elevated Rustic Romance

In the breathtaking landscape of Asturias, Spain, Marcos and Dom exchanged their vows. Their love story intertwines the cultures of Spain, Australia, and Lebanon, blending in elements from Arabic and Celtic traditions. “…(marriage), It is the ultimate commitment - deciding to spend the rest of your life with the person you have chosen. It also means accomplishing milestones together and continuing to grow together as a couple but also as individuals.”

How and when did you meet?

We met via the “social cupid” (gasp!) on a warm, balmy weekend in August 2019.

Tell us a little about that first time you met...

Dom: After some witty banter via a social app, I convinced Marcos to come over to my place to continue the conversation over a drink. We talked and laughed well into the early hours of the morning, with a promise of a second date!

Marcos: We talked for hours, and it felt so great. It really felt as I hadknown him for a very long time.

What was the first thing you noticed about each other?

Dom: I noticed Marcos’s magnetic smile.

Marcos: First I noticed was Dom’s big and beautiful brown eyes.

Tell us about the standout moments in your relationship…

Dom: Moving in together literally during the first week of lockdown ensued a steep learning curve. Learning about each other as any couple would, living together was only magnified in the many hours

spent confined during those weeks and months of the pandemic. Tolerance and patience were among many virtues earned, as well as deep understanding and appreciation of each other.

Marcos: I remember everyone telling us, ‘that is the biggest test of love’, and it definitely was. Such a new and exciting situation happening at such a terrifying and uncertain time with the Covid situation.

What does marriage mean to you?

Dom: A deep, lifelong commitment to one person, giving them your all. A promise of love and a dedication of support, protection and faithfulness which carries you both together on the same

journey, on the same path. To learn and grow together – through celebrations and challenges alike.

Marcos: It is the ultimate commitment - deciding to spend the rest of your life with the person you have chosen. It also means accomplishing milestones together and continuing to grow together as a couple but also as individuals.

Who proposed and how?

Marcos: Dom proposed to me at Christmas Eve dinner in Spain (at my parent's dinner table) literally just as I recovered from the last minute omicron outbreak, taking me by complete surprise. He got down on his knee during the toast and presented a Bvlgari ring – all witnessed

by my excited (and teary) parents!

When did you get married?

We got married the 3rd of June 2023.

Marcos and Dom's story continues below

What was the main influence behind your wedding day?

Marcos: Given that we’re both from different parts of the world, we wanted to incorporate all facets of our backgrounds, cultures and, more importantly, our families and friends.

Holding the wedding in Asturias, Spain, close by the sea, incorporating all the colours of the area, the local produce and hospitality was the main influence when planning the day. We wanted the whole wedding to have a romantic and rustic feeling to it, including celtic and Arabic elements representing our heritage.

What was the most important thing to you surrounding your wedding?

Dom: Having all the people we love and who have supported us throughout our lives, come together to celebrate with us. Family and friends travelled from all corners of the earth which was the greatest gift for us.

Did you incorporate any family sentiments or traditions?

Marcos: We both did have family amulets for protection and for good luck. I wore a bracelet that my grandfather got made for my grandmother representing key moments in their relationship and that has a very special meaning for me since none of them are no longer with us.

Dom: I wore blue-stoned cufflink’s which my mum gave to my dad back in the 70’s which I’ve always thought were absolutely fabulous, as well as a gold pendent belonging to my mum. We both incorporated the old traditions of something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.

Where did you find the bulk of your inspiration?

This was relatively easy for us as we both knew exactly what we wanted. So we found our main inspiration in our roots, Spain, Australia and Lebanon. We used both countries as inspiration for the florals, adding olive trees and eucalyptus, and having them inspire the colour palette.

We wanted something unexpected for the ceremony, so we decided to have a tropical inspiration with lots of bright colours contrasting with the greenery.

And for the party we knew we wanted something more sexy, almost mysterious, so we incorporated a lot of red, roses, which created a very special atmosphere.

What was the most difficult thing about planning your wedding?

Marcos: Personally I found difficult to juggle my work life, personal life and adding wedding planning to the equation. As even though we had the support of two wonderful wedding planners in

Spain, we were really hands on with all the different topics.

Any advice for other couples planning their day and finding it difficult to navigate the journey?

Remember that is the only day in your lives that you will have all your loved ones under one roof and it is a day to enjoy and celebrate love.
