New Zealand Couture Studio Fritz and Sarah Release Their First Capsule Collection

For many of us, the pandemic led us into a new creative space, pushing ourselves to look beyond what the ‘norm’ for our lives looked like and to take on new challenges. For New Zealand based bridal studio, Fritz and Sarah, it was creating their very first capsule collection.

“In the middle of last year’s lockdown, we couldn’t see our beautiful clients and found the situation took a toll on our mental wellbeing,” says Fritz and Sarah. “We were also unable to access fabrics easily, but we decided to overcome those limitations by using fabric and trims already in our workroom to create each piece in the capsule collection.”

Comprising of 5 gowns and 10 veils, each piece in the collection is available via fritzandsarah.co.nz.

“…We took the struggle and turned it into our inspiration. There was very little external input, and our inspiration had to come from within.”

The story of the Collide as told by Frtiz and Sarah –

“During the 2021 lockdown, being stuck in Auckland and unable to open our business and see brides for 107 days. Our suppliers were closed, and our funds were limited. We were struggling in our own personal lives and the impact of owning a small business during a lockdown was taking its toll on our mental health.

Collide was born out of this. Out of the unknown and the chaos of that period. We took the struggle and turned it into our inspiration. There was very little external input, and our inspiration had to come from within.

When it comes to design and aesthetics, Fritz and Sarah are complete opposites, we are chalk and cheese. We took our extreme differences and brought them together creatively. We took the fabrics we already had in stock, and we started creating.

A mixture of gowns, mini dresses and detachable skirts, this collection is just a taste of what the new era of bridal is becoming. The softness and fun of tulles contrasted with the structure of corsets just highlight how no two weddings are the same anymore.

The name Collide comes from our biggest love (other than gowns) which is music. Named after one of our favourite songs from Ed Sheeran’s latest studio album. It is about Fritz and Sarah’s creative process colliding and these gowns were born. You will also find the gowns are named after other songs on this album.

Because we specialise in bespoke bridal, every single one of these gowns are customisable.”
